1. Straighten Knee Lying (Prone) Stretch
Lie on stomach on firm, smooth surface with lower leg and kneecap off edge of surface. Let the weight of leg stretch the knee out straight. Hold 5 seconds. Relax and repeat for 3 sets of 10 repetitions twice a day.
What to feel? Stretching/tightness about back of knee
Goal: Increase joint mobility
2. Straighten Knee Sitting Hand Assist Stretch
Sit on chair and place heel on edge of another chair placed in front of you. Push down against the thigh near the kneecap with hands and hold 5 seconds. Relax and repeat for 3 sets of 10 repetitions twice a day.
What to feel? Stretching/tightness behind knee
Goal: Increase joint mobility
I research stretches frequently for my clients. I found these on Janet Bray's "Diary of an ACL Reconstruction".
I started in January and I've found i'm way more flexible than I was (still cant quite touch me toes yet *blush* I think I have tight tendons behind my knees 'cause I can't leg my legs straigh out in front of me either - but its getting better!)
It rocks - even though its just me and my mate and 10 pensioners! (they put us to shame) =D
I started taking Tai Chi from Master Farrell about 6 or 8 weeks ago. I'm really loving it, but I'm also realizing how much less coordinated I am than I was when I was a teenager! lol
Back then learning dance routines, cheers, etc. didn't seem that difficult, but now my mind and body seem to have incompatible software! lol
At first I didn't think it was doing me much good, but after I missed a couple of weeks and then went back....WHEW...I changed my mind! That lesson just about kicked my butt (in slow Tai Chi motion of course!)
