I?m a technician for a Bio-Technology company. I love my work and I?m good at it but it is really very socially isolating. I have begun searching for an outlet for one of my life passions which is physical training.
I love this sight.
I want to learn from all of you.
I want to be a personal trainer.
Would you ever hire a personal trainer? What qualities would you want in a trainer?

I hired a Personal Trainer once a week for six weeks when I first got my gym membership....I am SO glad I did!

He gave me 6 effective workouts and showed me how to do them, he eased my fears of the gym, making me realize that no one cared about the size of my thighs or belly...they were there to work on themselves like I was. And the best thing having a trainer did for me was to start a habit of fitness....I had shelled out hard earned money for six weeks of workouts....there was no way in hell I was going to miss them! After six weeks exercise became a pleasure rather than a chore and never in my wildest dreams thought I would feel that way. I Love the way exercise makes me feel....I love discovering muscles I didn't know I had....I love the extra energy I have....I love seeing improvement in my performance in cardio, weight lifting and Yoga. Once you make it a habit it really can be addictive!
I dont' think I would have gotten to this point if I didn't bit the bullet and hire a trainer to get my butt in the gym.

I still eat like a 200 pound person, so I am not losing a ton of weight....but I am stronger, healthier and feel fabulous!

Well I think I would be much more motivated to work out if I had a boyfriend who did it with me. I think it would be fun to share it and I would find it exciting to tackle it together. :)

In my experience it is hard to mix the trainer and lover relationship. I've found that I can push someone to give me more effort during a workout session that I have a friendly but professional relationship. With a lover it doesn't work like that. They also like to watch instead of doing the exercise and unless I want to sleep alone that night I have to be very careful how I try to motivate them. I'm not saying it can't be done but it would be a very special relationship indeed.

I had a personal trainer -- well 2 actually. They were both good and I enjoyed my time with them. Unfortunately it was just a bit too expensive for me to continue but I would have considered maybe hiring them again when I wanted to change my workout routine.

Here's what I would rather do.... date a guy who wants to work out with me and do it together. Plus I get the added bonus of watching him lift weights. Heck I'd get up at 6 a.m. for that! ;) heheheheh

Freysh write:

I would say variety and real life things we could do ourselves is also good, and having a way of monitoring progress that's not wieght loss, like how many pushups or a distance walked and improvement in time.

Good luck

Thanks for your input Freysh. I hear you. One of the reasons I'm here is cause I like the big girls. I don't want my client's to lose weight necessarily. I want them to be healthy and happy with themselves. Keep up with your game. That the real joy of being fit.

Peace
