Theophrastus, we are all too aware of the obscene zealotry of religion, IE: murdering christian crusades, so-called anti-abortion christians murdering doctors and nurses, muslims flying aircraft into innocent lives in tall buildings. That stated, I am unaware of similar offenses of zeal in the equally fraudulent realm of spiritualism. Are you? Other than the mega theft of cash and items of value by the 'practitioners' of spiritualism
for hire, and murder to hopefully transfer wealth of the murdered to the charlatan, I haven't read of any real spiritual zealotry. Comments?

There are many things in this world.. We can't see or hear but they are just as real as anything else.. If you think about it isn't it funny that.. In a society that largely believes in Jesus and angels and all.. That generally goes with main stream religion.. That the idea that peoples souls or energy.. Can be left behind when they die is redickulas to many of them.. I find that odd lol.. If you can believe that we go to heaven or hell when we die.. Then why can't you fathom that maybe some get stuck in between.. Just a thought no offense to any ones religion..I believe that there are people that are more sensitive to these things then others.. I'm not really too sure about the Ouija Bord.. But I have herd bad stuff in the past about it..There def are allot of people now adays.. Just trying to make a quick buck off the hole subject.. I guess in the end its really personal choice.. As with any religion or matters of spiritualism..

"As far as I'm concerned you're no different to kids with imaginary friends. Only outside of the Shining, kids tend not to go to war or stone people to death on the basis of what their imaginary friend tells them."

THANK YOU THEO!

I am very spiritual -- definitely believe in the afterlife, *some* mediums, ghosts, spirits, reincarnation (though, I believe species stay true to species), etc.

I tampered with Ouija boards as a teen -- total waste of time (lights went out, spoke to Elvis; not my cup of tea.)

I was raised Roman Catholic, though no longer consider myself one, and have no personal use for religion...but I do respect those who do.

We are all on our own paths, after all...

Hi all. I am new here. I think I will add my two cents, if I may.

First of all, I am Jewish and while I do not observe the religion I do believe in it. Second of all, I talk to the dead. And they talk back. And they give me information that I COULD NOT know in any other way. That is not belief. That is fact. And that fact does not go against the belief system of the Jewish religion in any way... nor any of the western religions to my knowledge.

If someone blows a dog whistle, we as humans do not hear it. Yet all the dogs within a certain radius will come running. This is a perfect example of what it is like to speak with those in spirit form. Not EVERYONE's senses are able to pick up the transmission. This does not negate the experiences for the people who CAN receive the transmission.
Just like we as humans cannot hear the dog whistle, neither can we make the whistle not attract dogs.

I am not saying that there aren't some charlatans out there. Most certainly there are. But here is the perfect time for one of those silly math problems we got as kids in school.

If some of the people are charlatans and some of the people talk to the dead, then are all of the people who talk to the dead charlatans? Nope. Not at all....

I would like to believe that it is real because then a psychic could tell me when I will meet Mr. Right and I would not have to be on the internet looking. I believe that we have free will so the future is not set though. Now about ghosts.....

Spiritulism means something a bit different to me. I do believe mediums exist. I study and practice meditation, tantra and other spiritual aspects. I do not believe I am gifted with insight, but I do have good instincts and intution about things.. which many do but are not aware of or want to acknowledge.

I found the Ouija to be completely absurd.. was ok for entertainment in my younger years. It's all about perception.. and I am totally convinced that the mind is the most powerful tool and weapon we possess.

Yes, I love scary movies.. No, I dont worship Satan..Yes, I do believe in God.. No I am not a fanatic... I am just plain and simply ME.... I believe what I choose, I dont push my beliefs or thoughts off on others... I am open minded and will listen and occassionally will engage in intelligent debates..IF.. I think they are going somewhere other then an arguement.

Just my spin on things

I could go on and on and on and on ... but I wont, I think we need to respect peoples beliefs in whatever it is they believe in ... I dont believe in religion and the bible, and yet one of my dearest friends is an avid catholic ... its a big part in her life, as are my beliefs, but its something we overcome because there are so many other great qualities there to enjoy ....

Thank you Rockchic! My exact sentiment! I think it's sad when people who are believers are ridiculed by people who have never really tried to experience what they are experiencing.

Let's just respect that we have different opinions and beliefs.

Well this is a subject that is a very strong point in my life ... I am not going to go on about what I have seen, experienced, learned, felt, etc etc etc, couldnt be bothered with the ridicule and the arguments for one !! :P HOWEVER, If anyone has ever wanted to talk to me about things of this nature, I do go into detail about it , but I just say, if you are going to diss me or carry on, I wont bother ... there is NOTHING worse then when someone who is a non believer or sceptic, putting down what you have experienced just because they havent ....

My brother in law is one of the biggest sceptics in the world, unless its scientifically proven and in a text book, then it doesnt exist ... my question to him was ... well, how come so many people, all around the world who have NEVER seen or spoken to eachother have a similar experience of a supernatural nature ...?? its not like there is this big beacon that goes off in all parts of the world saying "hey I have a new one lets spread this psychic phenomena like wild fire" ....

I always wish something "spooky" happened to every sceptic in the world .... just to prove how real it all is ....

I do agree the mind is a powerful tool, and alot of people "convince themselves" of things that just aren't there or just aren't happening. However, I also beleive in psychics and mediums...definately the supernaturel and have experienced alot in the way of spirits/communication, etc and No... Im not a crazy person LOL I've just always been very much connected to "the other side" if you will.

This is a hard one for me to answer. We've touched on it a bit when we've talked already.

I do believe that we live on after our physical bodies die. And I think some spirits do try to communicate with those who are still alive.

However, I also think that many people see what they want to, and mistake tricks of light etc, for apparitions or whatnot.

And I will go public with this: I KNOW Sylvia Brown is a fraud.

*ducks the flying tomatoes*

Theophrastus write:
After chatting to a couple of people online, I'm wondering how many people here believe in spiritualism?

As in mediums and communication with the dead?

Surely everyone has a Ouija board story?

Well, since we are extreme opposites on the religious issues, I feel compelled to interject my opinion here.

Yes, I believe it is real. There are many instances in the bible of such occurances. As a christian, I believe those accounts are true According to the bible, they were all going against God and giving warnings to not get involved with them.
