Hi all, test run for a new topic...if anyone is interested.

Just wondering what others here do for a living and if they like it, and how they got into it...

OK me first...

I am a radio news anchor...I know it sounds glamorous, but it's really not. I write and report the news on a local talk radio station.

I really do love it although sometimes it can be very chaotic and frustrating. Especially during times of crisis like the London Bombings, when all I want to do is cry for the innocent people who were just on their way to work...

I got into radio, 1-because people don't see me...lol
and 2-because I always wanted to do something with my voice, sing, act, record answering machine message, voice a cartoon character (wouldn't that be cool?!?) etc...

Okay, everyone now it's your turn.
I hope...

Well right now I teach English at a high school here in Shanghai, China.

Before I have worked as a baker/cook at a resort, a tour guide of a hydroponic system, and an environmental educator....all at Walt Disney World, the happiest place on earth, which I miss very much.

But I am an Earth Science major and I hope to graduate soon so I can go to the Water Management Institute in the Netherlands and get UN certification in water resources management. My dream would be to work with UNESCO or UNEP.

Hi everyone. You all have some great jobs!

Currently, I'm a Training and Security Consultant. Prior to this I've been in security, a shop, an office, and the Royal Air Force. The idea of travel appealed!

Had to burn off some nervous energy, so I (re)started a second job last night...

When I was in college, I used to do stand-up comedy. I've been thinking about getting back into it again for some time and last night I took the plunge...

I did open mike night at a local club and did pretty well. The manager asked me to expand my material and come back. If I do as well with a longer set, he'll use me as fill when he needs it.

I love tradesmen ... secret fantasy I think ... lol and OP and Mr GW raising kids is definately one of the hardest jobs around I reckon .... not that I have done it (yet maybe never) but I see from friends around me.... and your job of Adult parties would be sooo much fun OP !!

Well bubs and Kew , I totally admire you both .... I think it takes a LOT to be able to work in the fields you do, I am too much of a sook, would get too attached and probably cry my bu.tt off when peeps passed away, not saying it doesnt sadden you, but I just know what I am like .... thats why I couldnt work as a vet, or in a childrens hospital ... or anything like that.... I just make a lot of donations to places I dont have to guts to work for pathetic I know

You know... I constantly have people tell me, "Oh, I bet that is the most depressing place to work" but the truth is... they couldn't be far_ther (why is that word censored? geez) from the truth... I can honestly say that is the most happiest, loving place I have ever worked. Because Hospice is not focused on dying but rather on living life to the fullest until the last moment. Thanks... I needed to be reminded why I enjoy my job!

bubs... I can relate... I work for our local Hospice. It is not a job for anyone... I admire you so much for it takes a special kind of person to do what you do! I agree, it can be quite difficult some days.... but then when a family tells you how you made such a difference at this most difficult time of their lives.... well, there's nothing like it! You hug, you cry and you remember!

Aww..Thank you Kewannap
I do enjoy what I do, but yeah, at times, its tough.
I think your job is so valued too...coz when a family cant or dont want to cope at home, for whatever reason, then hospices are just brilliant.
I worked for a while in a hospice, and found it to be one of the most fun, and loving places to be.
Hugs to you

So nice to see what other people do for a living.
Me??..I am a Nurse, working with the terminally ill and their families.
Stressful and Sad at times? Yes.
Would I change it...NO WAY!!
I adore what I do, and as I get to know the families, as well as the patient, we usually end up as friends too, which is nice.
I sometimes think I might like to do something a bit less emotional, but at the end of the day, its what I am trained to do, and what I love doing.

It's quite nice to hear about everyone's jobs and such. I am a full-time Daddy; I retired a while ago and have no regrets about staying home and guiding my children to adulthood. I do despise the term "House-husband" though. I'm not Married to the house, I own it.

This is my first post here ... be nice! :)

I'm a parttime university lecturer and I also develop multimedia (websites and CD-based applications) on a contract basis. I guess you could call me a geekgirl! It keeps me fairly busy but I work my own hours most of the time so it's pretty good!

Everyone has such a cool job. I just build houses. I'm the guy who they make carry 3 and 4 20ft peices of 2x6, and cut all the peices that no one can seem to measure right the first time. I like it though. I get to work outside and get paid to work out in a sense. It's pretty cool to drive around the town you grew up in and see all the houses you helped build with fammilies now living in them. The only bad thing is straddling a second story peak while leaning over the side to hand nail a board on the edge. (Not to fond of falling 50ft.)

I do science. I work in an anatomic pathology dept. in a hospital lab as a Technologist. Histology ( the study of tissue) and Immunocytochemistry, the classification of primary tumor sites. I know to many big words. Gordy, I'll trade ya. I'd rather be playing music.

I work for a plumbing business. I am the office manager and even my bosses call me BOSS LADY. Its a small business, but busy as it seems the whole world is pluggin up their toilets, breaking their sewer lines or having issues with their showers.
I also manage a property managment business for the same people. In essence I am the "mean landlady" because I make them pay their rent on time (what a shocker) and I also make them abide by their leases/rental agreements.
Its a fun job for the most part and the best part is that I get to bring my daughter to work with me and my bosses even set up a special tv and got cable and such for her for when she is here.

You know when your young and you say "I wanna be ________ when I grow up"? I never knew what I wanted to be but I sure knew what I didn't want to be and that was an Insurance Agent. Guess what guys? Some how I ended up a freakin Insurance Agent. Go figure. I also manage the office that I work in. It's not all bad, it pays the bills but I sure would like to change and do more creative things with my life.

Hi all,

I liked reading what you all do for work. I am a program director for a community based mental health agency. I run a treament facility for mentally ill adults (those with severe and profound mental illnesses). We help our clients learn all th skills they need to live an independent life. For example, cooking, cleaning, hygeine, coping skills, symptom management, budgeting skills, anger management, the list goes on and on. It is a very intense and demanding job, but equally rewarding.

I have been in this field for 12 years, 2 and the director. I am very proud to say in January my department underwent great changes so we now bill medicaid for our services. It was challenging to get it all up and running, but so gratifying to see the positive impact it has had on the clients.

Thanks for letting me ramble on! I love my job....incase ya can't tell...lol.

I'm enjoying this site, I just recently joined.

Qteepie

Love this topic....intresting to see what some of you all do for a living.

I have two jobs (3 if you include being a single mom - surpirsed no one else mentioned that!)

Anyway - my day job is international ocean imports. I am the middle (wo)man who handles the movement of my customers freight from their factories overseas (mainly in the Far East) and handle all the paperwork and details that come along with it... US Customs, the steamship lines, the railroads, the truckers! All to get my customer what they ordered from their factories. So basiclly I we do not sell anything but my wonderful expertise! 13 years now.

And #2 - my second job - the extra cash job is I am a representitive for adult only in home parties. I sell adult toys, lotions, potions, lingerie. I make it really fun and exciting. I make some pretty good cash. Now we are also selling on another line fashion purses, jewlery, sunglasses and organic makeup. I do the parties on the weekends mostly. Fun fun fun!!!

Hi, first time writing on here. I work in the health care field for a living, I work in Long Term Care and do assesments on people who are terminally ill and want to pass away in their own homes rather than the hospital. I also work in a group home part time, working with 3 adult males who are developmentally challenged. Its a challenging and rewarding job all rolled into one.
