We could meet a Starbucks for a coffee, Then stroll around the mall and talk and enjoy each others company! We could spend as much or as little time together as we would like...

Let's be real. If this is a first date, then we've never actually spent any time together in the Real World. So anything could happen, and probably will happen. So let's have a first date where we can make out in a dark corner of a room if things go really well, or run screaming to our cars if they don't. That place is IKEA. Why not? Everyone likes to look at nice furniture, sometimes even buy some, and definitely pick up some framed Matisse prints and a couple of area rugs. And all this can be done on a date without compromising the integrity of the conversation or free expression in the least. Because EVERYONE has opinions about furniture and home stuff, and even if either of us disagrees about the aesthetic value of this or that objet 'dart, it's not like fighting the Civil War. So I will only go on a first date with women who live near an IKEA. Or maybe an Apple Store.
