Hi there all in blog land, I was reading some other blogs and thought that we all¿would have terms for Big Beautiful Women in our parts of the world that are acceptable to use but not all would be the same.

¿

¿

¿

Here in Australia I think we use the term BBW, Larger or Bigger.¿ Think that the word fat would be considered offensive as would thick or fluffy as babycakes has mentioned.

¿

¿

¿

What do you personally like to be called and what do you find offensive?

¿

¿

¿

What about your part of the world?¿ How about everyone that reads this, adds to it, an international poll.¿ :)

¿

¿

Tubby,Gigantor,Porky ,Michilan man,and Sta-puff Marshmallow man are all words that I have had personally used aginst me . Words that I feel are nuetral Are; Rubenesque, plump, curvey well rounded , Plus sized, Husky and Portly . words I feel are Realy offensive is Fat Slob. To me the connotation of being large has nothing to do with with my cleanliness or lack of moral values or social graces. to infer , or impli that being a "twig makes you a better person is a load Of Horse exhaust AKA as Fertalizer!

LOL Butterbll you do have a great sense of humour.¿ grins

¿

I agree that the perception of being bigger and not been clean or lazy is the one that annoys me the most.¿ I know that most larger people pay much more attention to staying clean than some of the slimmer variety.¿ Think people should see individuals for just that, being another person regardless of what size they are, and not prejudge.¿ Oh the perfect world???

¿

I do wonder how some of those slimmer people that call us lazy would get done if they uploaded another person on their backs and tried to handle all they needed to in life?

Quoting: Originally posted by ozredhead62 Good question Islandgal.? I dont like the word "fat" used to describe either male or female, guess it goes back to all those childhood taunts I had. ? Now it is interesting I dont use any of the terms you stated above for males, I tend to just call them "bigger" or "larger"?.? I guess that to me bigger sort of covers it as not everyone that is carring extra is bigger in the same area and some like is just bigger all over. lol ................................................................ I think those terms for guys tend to be what they select if forced to describe themselves rather than what we might use for them - like you I tend to favour the words "bigger" or "larger" (tend to favour that physique too, lol! Don't want a small skinny guy, I might break him!!)

I like to be called beautiful, plush, abundant or Goddess (Yes, I said Goddess. It's not really a big ego thing, but it makes me blush and feel good). I dislike anything said with a negative tone to it, especially obese because I have never heard anyone using that word do so with a neutral or positive tone.

Do you think the "fat" words relating to the fellas are more flattering, or is it just that it's more acceptable for the guys to be bigger? Chunky, stocky, broad, sturdy, robust, portly, to me they all have a very masculine ring to them. I suppose for the females there are words like voluptuous and rubenesque, but they refer to a very specific shape of curviness that I certainly don't fit!

I was called rubenesque recently and thought that he must have said that because I still had my clothes on and he had not had the chance to peek underneath. lol¿

I like to be called cuddly, as children love to give me a big cuddle when they see me. Not sure if it is a term used in UK. Children feel safe around me, squeezing and squashing bits of me and they tell it like it is. My 3 year old niece once said to me, i like your cuddly belly it's like a soft pillow....aaahhh!!

Oh yes cuddly is good though to me that is someone that is only slightly overweight, not something I consider myself at all.¿ You know that¿when your 7 year old want to use your tummy as a slide while in the bath.¿ :O

I agree with smoosh, it all comes down to fat. I prefer plus size and full figure. I think being called fluffy is fine. Here it gives the impression of being soft and cuddly which is nice. I have described myself as a marshmallow, an egg with arms and legs, a figure 8 with the curve removed, pleasingly plump and many other descriptions. In the years that I've been heavy I've found you must have a sense of humor or words become arrows. What the doctors say don't bother me because they are just trying to help me. But my doctor just says, "lose the weight", he doesnt use the obese word to my face. I don't think it would bother me though because it's the medical term they normally use. Who cares, we are all beautiful people anyway and marvelously made! Smile-azure

My favorite word for fat is "fluffy". I know it sounds funny but it doesn't make me feel degraded. Also chubby, thick, plus sized, or BBW is o.k. for me. Words I hate are obese, fat, huge. Kris

Thanks Katwoman, I do think it is interesting how we all find different term offensive and others acceptable.¿ Maybe what we have had used with us in a negative way sticks and thus is offensive to us.

¿

I think that is why I tend to like BBW as it enforces that it is positive and cant be used in an negative way.¿

Quoting Babycakes63:

Hi Oz! I understand that the two words that I like are used in another way in the UK, but i like thick because it is rarely used here. I think that thick represent me as a big juicy steak... not that I am a piece of meat, but like provoking a mouth watering effect. I don't really know if it brings about the effect I want necessarily, but it makes me feel good about myself. The Fluffy is really just thrown in there... I can live without it. Just my opinion. I am curious as to what others would say so I'm going to keep my eye on this one. Love, Elaine

Hey Babycakes, I think we take after the UK a bit , thick here is also someone that has not too many brain smarts.¿ I think fluffy would also be taken that way.¿ If someone called me think and flufy I would think that they mean stupid and silly.¿ lol¿

¿

One term I got last year from the states was Phat, in a movie.¿ Now for the life of me I cant remember what it stands for , but did mean big lovely woman according to the movie.¿ Thought it was an interesting phrase.¿ Though in that movie they used thick as a complementary term.

¿

I do find this very interesting and do wonder how much of it all is conditioning and personal expieriences too?

Quoting smoosh:

Plump, Curvy, Chubby, Full-Figured, Plus Size - I think I prefer Full Figured for myself for my size. (although anything over 200 for a woman I believe is considered obese but I would find that offensive by anyone but a Dr and a clinical evaluation) It all comes down to Fat....(smoosh in Ont.,Canada)

Yes Smoosh would not like to be called obese by anyone even give the doctor some hard looks lol.¿ Though I also find plump and chubby offensive though I do wonder if this is tied up in all those horror memories of childhood, when thsse were some very favoured word that were used?¿ Thanks for¿adding to the poll.¿

I'll often refer to myself as "lardy", but not sure I'd appreciate anyone else calling me that! Bigger, larger, plus size .... all of those might be acceptable but it kinda depends on how they are used - all can sound offensive depending on the context. I don't think BBW is a terribly well known term in the UK except among those in that club. Fat, overweight, obese, morbidly obese ... they all get used when people don't want to sugar coat it, lol, or as more clinical terms! As I've mentioned on another thread, in the UK "thick" is basically a slang word for thick in the head or stupid. I'd rather be called fat than stupid! Equally "fluffy" is taken to mean fluffy-headed or a bimbo. Again not a term I'd use over here! As for what I want to be called ..... I'm ME; no more defined by my weight than by my height, hair colour, eyes, or any other of the many features that go together to make me unique :)
